Registered Massage Therapy

The manual therapeutic manipulations in massage therapy work directly on muscles and connective tissues to physically release tension, restore mobility and balance. RMTs can also work with the body’s nervous system to promote healing and reduce stress.

Following graduating from a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2016 from the University of British Columbia, I returned to the island to complete the Competency-Based Registered Massage Therapy Program at WCCMT. I graduated from this 2200 hour program in August of 2018. My educational background in kinesiology and biomechanics has served as a particularly valuable foundation in understanding the human body as a whole while following or considering the source of an ailment. A holistic approach to manual therapy is, in my opinion, a key component to sustained, effective healing and rehabilitation.

Having grown up amid a community of triathletes, I developed an early appreciation for physical activity, nutrition, and the profound benefits of a healthy, mindful lifestyle.

My philosophy is simple: I believe that under reasonable conditions, our bodies are proficient at healing themselves. As such, my goal is to facilitate the natural healing process by listening to and understanding my client’s needs in order to develop an individualized treatment plan that enhances their healing while reducing injury-related anxieties. Every treatment is uniquely tailored, however, the general objectives are to improve function, reduce pain, and help prevent future injuries through client education and thoughtful treatment plans. I would describe my approach to massage therapy as client-centered, evidence based, with special attention to creating a calming, healing space. I love helping my clients become more confident and informed in what they can do in daily life to improve their wellbeing and I believe this to be one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

I use a variety of techniques including deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching, trigger point therapy, active modalities, etc. I have a particular interest in women’s health, athletic injuries, postural strains (+prevention), repetitive strain injuries, persistent pain, stress/anxiety management, and sleep difficulties.

In my spare time, I can be found cooking, reading, hiking, singing, and generally enjoying the west coast life

Kinesiology has been broadly defined by the BCAK as: Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement, performance and function, and applies the sciences of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and motor learning (neuroscience). Kinesiology utilizes science-based approaches, research and assessment to aid in the enhancement of human performance and to assist in the prevention or rehabilitation of injury and other physiological conditions - British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK)
